Research indicates that children are ready and more suited to a transition at eight years of age than 5 years of age. NECS engages children in year 2 with explicit learning experiences in order for them to be ready for the transition to year 3. In addition to working with children at school, NECS works with each child’s nominated year 3 school to plan a range of transition visits for children to get to know their new school, to meet peers and learn routines associated with their new school.
We also try to arrange visits for the family to meet key staff at their child’s new school in preparation for the new school year. It is our aim for all children to successfully transition to year 3 at whatever school that may be.
